The Three Villages Gala

Serving the villages of Burton Joyce, Bulcote and Stoke Bardolph

Another successful run for the villagers on a cool Sunday morning with then option of a 5km run or walk around the villages of Burton Joyce and Bulcote

This well attended event saw the finest and fittest sprint off for their 5km or 10km run followed slightly more sedately but just as enthusiastically by many more families. The end in sight back at the Poplars Sports Ground with a welcome cup of tea and certificate.

All proceeds went towards the fund raising for the main three Galas day on Monday 5th May.

The Three Villages Fun Run is one of the core fund raising events for the Three Villages Gala every year. It is run generally on the first Sunday of the New Year and is aimed, as with all Gala activities, to be a social and community event.

The course has remained unchanged over the past few years, leaving the sports ground and taking the farm estates road past the allotments, through Bulcote Farm into Bulcote Village back to the main road and through Burton Joyce past the church before turning towards the station and back past the sports ground to Stoke Bardolph, around Stoke Bardolph and return to the finish line at the sports ground a very pleasant 10km later, for those who prefer a shorter run or a walk when passing the sports ground on the way to Stoke Bardolph, you may stop off† having completed 5km.

The run was officially recognised and measured in 2006 by the MCAA.

The first run took place at the start of the century, 2000,† and apart from a break due to foot and mouth has been run every year.

There is one lady who lives in Carlton and in her 70ís who has took part every year walking the 5km, a tremendous achievement.
