The Three Villages

Gala

Text Box: Dear All

As I sit here still with aching feet and reflect on my first year as the new Chairman of the Three Villages Gala I am pleased to let you know the May Gala Weekend was a success.
The Friday evening Kids disco (7-11years) went remarkably well, run by Paul Doherty and the Burton Joyce Junior Football club we had a good attendance and the new layout of furniture provided a good area for dancing and eyeing up their classmates. The Adult BBQ and Bar next door was well frequented by Mums and Dads and proved a suitable refuge from the activities. Weather that evening as good and so the turn out was in excess of 200 children's and 100 adults.

Saturday May 2nd the Marquee hosted the Saturday Night Bee Gees Tribute Band. With a near sell out on the tickets (350 approximately) we felt this was a tremendous response in times of the Credit Crunch. Very positive feedback was given about the night and in particular the format of an hour of Bee Gees more energetic songs and then 30 minutes of 70s and 80s live music by the QBand. Pictures here

Sunday May 3rd saw an elegant highly polished performance from Magdala light operatic and choral society. Aimed at the more discerning and older customer and despite Magdala performance the attendance fell short of what we would have liked. An incoming cold front kept the heaters under pressure all night.

The same cold front threatened to cancel our Gala Day on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May however just in time the rains eased and the wind mainly subsided. Our attendance therefore could have been disastrous but was nearly identical to last year (30 degrees C) at over 1600 people. My colleagues and myself received much encouragement about the new format of the Gala and the significant changes we have made to freshen it up and build on the successes of previous years. The photographic and baking competitions proved a success as did the extra rides, Climbing wall and Rodeo bull, electric karts and Quasar. Many of the Arena Events were switched to the Marquee but the 500 years of Military infantry weapons would have blown the roof off!! The website will be updated constantly over the next month please check in and if you attended recent events see if you can spot yourself in the "Previous Events" zone.

A final thanks to all the people that help support us including Dean and Kelly at Lord Nelson Pub, Adam at Rotajet and Chris Knowles from the Scouts, Graham Marsden LRPS, but particularly the hard work of my colleagues on the Three Villages Committee. To Yvonne Greenfield, Fiona Hunter, Paul Doherty Jason Loach and John Hackett I reserve my warmest thanks and praise for their efforts and to all of you that visited us. Not only do we hope to provide fun and entertainment for our community cost effectively we will be looking to make a sizeable contribution to the fund new Children's Playground at Burton Joyce run by Burton Joyce Parish Council and without their efforts we could not have staged the Events.
